Khahil and Elaine got married this afternoon - 22 November 2008 - at the National Mosque, Kuala Lumpur. Khahil agreed to take Elaine as his wife in accordance with the relevant Sharia requirements in a simple, yet bright and cheerful, Muslim nikah ceremony.
The nikah (An-Nikah) is a solemnisation of the marriage contract. In Minhaj Al-Muslim, Volume 2 (page 324), by Abu Bakr Jabir Al-Jaza’iry (Lecturer in the Noble Prophetic Mosque in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah), the wording of the marriage contract was explained as follows:
It is a saying of the husband-to-be or his representative at the time (of the formation) of the contract, “Marry me to your daughter or so-and-so girl that you have been left in charge of.” So that the guardian will respond to him saying, “Indeed I have given you my daughter (or so-and-so girl) in marriage.” Thereupon the groom says, “I have accepted her marriage to me.”
So that’s basically what happened at the nikah ceremony today. The precise words exchanged between the wali and groom I can’t describe because I was taking pictures. Maybe Slamberjo - Elaine’s brother-in-law - can help me out on this since he was one of the two required legal witnesses. Being a good witness to a nikah that he should, Slamberjo leaned forward to listen; so he should catch all the words that were exchanged. The other witness was Elaine’s cousin, Ezmeer.
Enough said. Here are some of the pictures of the nikah ceremony: Read the rest of this entry »

And my Onitsuka Tiger Taichi sneakers in black and yellow have arrived. Mr. UPS man delivered them at around 4.15pm on 23 October 2008.
I was overwhelmed with a couple of things since then; so, other than a single post on football, I was either too tired or lazy to write about anything else. More lazy than tired, I guess. But today, the desire to write about my new sneakers is stronger. So here’s my piece.
Well, what appealed to me most about this Onitsuka Tiger Taichi is the way the yellow stripes seem to want to leap off the black uppers, jump at me and scream, “wear the damn sneakers, and wear them all the time, you fool.” Read the rest of this entry »

Not contented with watching English Premier League (EPL) football on TV, I’d browse the football section of UK online newspapers and other football sites for more news.
To make my life easier, and hopefully yours too, the links collection below serves as a launch-pad to: Read the rest of this entry »

Millionaire hedge fund boss, Andrew Lahde, quits the industry and wrote a most excellent goodbye letter. In essence, he said, “Up yours! Thank you; bye-bye“. Hahaha …
The letter is a must read, dudes. Here it is, reproduced verbatim from the Financial Times:
October 17, 2008
Today I write not to gloat. Given the pain that nearly everyone is experiencing, that would be entirely inappropriate. Nor am I writing to make further predictions, as most of my forecasts in previous letters have unfolded or are in the process of unfolding. Instead, I am writing to say goodbye.
Recently, on the front page of Section C of the Wall Street Journal, a hedge fund manager who was also closing up shop (a $300 million fund), was quoted as saying, “What I have learned about the hedge fund business is that I hate it.” I could not agree more with that statement. I was in this game for the money. The low hanging fruit, i.e. idiots whose parents paid for prep school, Yale, and then the Harvard MBA, was there for the taking. These people who were (often) truly not worthy of the education they received (or supposedly received) rose to the top of companies such as AIG, Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers and all levels of our government. All of this behavior supporting the Aristocracy only ended up making it easier for me to find people stupid enough to take the other side of my trades. God bless America. Answers.com states that a buddy is a good friend; a comrade.
So, there are friends; and there are buddies.
One of my buddies is Syahran; pictured here in Baju Melayu and a funky songkok at our office’s Hari Raya makan-makan last week:

(Woits, Syah Aran ... serious moonlight la expression kau ni, beb! Hahaha)
Apart from friends and buddies, there’re also “blood brothers” (please don’t attempt to elaborate on this here, Reza). Full stop

Hey you, macho rugby fans.
I bet most of you haven’t seen the new rugby jersey of Stade Français. No, not the pink ones. The new jersey is not dominant in any particular colour like we are accustomed to when it comes to sports jerseys.
They are selling the Adidas replica jerseys for 75 euros. I would buy one to add to the collection, if I can afford it.
Here, see it for yourself:

C’est bizarre, non?! The multi-coloured images on the jersey are of Blanche de Castille, who was the wife of Louis VIII and mother of Louis IX. See some of the players in the new 3rd jersey below: Read the rest of this entry »

Well, I’ve just finished watching Wanted. It’s a movie about an ordinary young man who later became an assassin.
Wesley Gibson, an accountant, was living a routine and boring life when a foxy lady named Fox unexpectedly surfaced in his life and recruited him into an ancient society of assassins.
So, after some training and discovery of his natural abilities as a killer, Wesley became an assassin. Just like his long lost father.

The movie’s IMDB rating when I checked earlier was 7.1/10 (53,217 votes). Read the rest of this entry »

I was strolling aimlessly in Bukit Bintang Plaza last week when a pair of retro looking black/white Asics shoes caught my eyes. So, I went into the shop and shelled out RM250 for them.
Lo and behold! I present thee …
the Asics Whizzer Lo; a low cut wrestling shoes for referees and coaches. Wrestlers use the boot cut ones. Wow … I am so freakin pleased. Read the rest of this entry »
